“I See Ghosts” is Essie Country’s selection for Halloween week, but there’s nothing scary about this song—just a haunting reminder of days gone by.
This week’s Essie Country Song of the Week is one that I believe most of us can relate to.
For me, every time I visit the town where I grew up, I see places that are no longer there—except in the shadows of my mind.
I also see ghosts of my past when I visit other towns where I once lived. Familiar places bring back memories of people I once knew, experiences I once enjoyed, and a life that now exists only in my memory.
Cowritten and performed by Brian Callihan, “I See Ghosts” takes us on a ghost tour of his hometown, where time has changed the landscape but hasn’t erased the memories of what used to be.
“I See Ghosts” isn’t about spirits haunting abandoned places. It’s about the memories that haunt familiar places—reminders of people, places, and moments that time has taken away but memory refuses to surrender.
