Josh Weathers performs a song that has an excellent chance of becoming Essie Country’s 2026 Real Country Music Song of the Year—it’s that good.

Co-writers Bobby Pinson and Josh Weathers penned an amazing song, “Never Died From It.” With superb artistry and controlled emotion, Josh delivers a heartfelt and believable performance that I can relate to. Why? Because the lyrics seem to have been pulled from the pages of my own life and cover me like dust on a gravel road.

The words, “I’ve done it as bad as you can do it in one life. I’ve never died from it, but I’ve lived through it a couple of times,” flow through my mind like whiskey that burns on the way down. It’s good, but it gets your attention. I survived those difficult times of heartbreak and lost love, and as the song says, I’m not as weak as I was.

Songwriters and performers strive to connect with their audience. If a song is written and performed to touch the heart and soul, then “Never Died From It” certainly accomplishes that—at least for me. And if a past relationship has ever left you heartbroken, there’s a good chance you’ll connect with this song too.

Josh Weathers was recently named Entertainer of the Year by the Texas Country Music Association. Essie Country recognizes his talent by selecting his recent release, “Never Died From It,” for the Essie Country Real Country Music Song of the Week series.
