There are those who don’t believe in prayer. Of course, there are many who do. Regardless of one’s beliefs about prayer, this week’s Essie Country Real Country Music Song of the Week never had a prayer of being left out of Essie Country’s Song of the Week series.

With a vocal performance that reminds you of the guy next door singing at a family reunion or church picnic, this song is an excellent example of what is missing from much of today’s mainstream country music—a simple melody, a realistic story, a down-home vocal, and music that allows the singer to tell the story without competing with the band.

    “Thank You For Praying” Best part of the song was Gene’s commentary. I have never been a fan of Gospel music or emotional religious songs. But this song does a good job at telling a story and examining life as we experience. I can’t tell how many times over the years I have heard in our churches this very story related in someone’s testimony. Even non-church going people can recognize the honest love that is seen in a mother’s prayer for her wayward son, or the acholic husband. A father’s prayer for the safety of a missing child. These prayers are not always answered, but when it does work out, many times this very song is played out in real time. Great song and great job Gene.
