For this week’s selection, Essie Country is reaching back a quarter-century to spotlight a song that still holds up today. I am going back to 2001. Why? Because, in my opinion, Buddy Jewell’s “Through the Eyes of a Fool” is one of the finest examples of genuine country music ever recorded. 

That is why, despite our usual focus on newer releases, we are featuring Buddy Jewell’s “Through the Eyes of a Fool” as this week’s Essie Country’s Real Country Music Song of the Week. The songwriting, the instrumentation, and the vocal performance come together to create something special.

As a bonus, you will hear one of the best lines in country music history:

“It’s hard to read between the lines when you’re looking through the eyes of a fool.”

It may not read that great, but when you hear it in the song, I think you will agree with me it is a brilliantly written line that elevates the song into an unforgettable country masterpiece.

      Thank you for responding to my post of your song. It is a remarkable song and it has been on my personal playlist for years.

      By the way, I just finished writing a book (My Kind of Country Music-A Lifelong Fan Perspective) and I am working on it to self-publish with Amazon. In my book, I have a chapter on Through the Eyes of a Fool. When I get it published I would love to send you a copy.
